BFF Movie Night: Shifting Sands

4/6/2017

On Thursday May 18th stop in BFF Bikes for an OOFD Bike Camp Movie Night: A locally produced documentary showcasing how the historical journey of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore came to be —"Shifting Sands: On the Path to Sustainability"
After the film, join documentarian and Co-Producer Tom Desch for a Q&A, and check out regional bike maps & routes. Then go bike camping this season to discover first-hand about a place which exists outside all our front doors, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
"Shifting Sands” explores how the Indiana Dunes region, through its influential environmental battles, offers a blueprint towards a more sustainable future. This hour-long documentary was nominated in 2016 for a Chicago/Midwest Regional Emmy® Award. The film’s 2016 release commemorated 100 years since the first proposal of a national park in an urban setting occurred, and 50 years after the congressional authorization of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
We will also have the Active Transportation's "Chicagoland Regional Bike Map" and the Indiana's Greenways and Blueways Map" on hand/display for people to learn about the regions bike routes. This way viewers will be able/encouraged to travel by bike to the Indiana Dunes and Calumet Region to further learn key points in the documentary first hand and in person. So let's go forth, explore more and BikeTheBlueBasin.

A great opportunity to learn how advocacy from movement to protect the Indiana Dunes transformed into a new model of cooperation, where industrialists and environmentalists—once bitter adversaries—work together to steer this community toward a more sustainable future. - On The Path to Sustainability: Shifting Sands
