Where the public took part in a 100 year old tradition, learned the battle and struggle for a National Park which sparked a world wide movement and introduced legislation that would forever change American history, and discovered the birthplace of modern day ecology.

Illinois Chain-O-Lakes State Park -photo by Andrew St. Paul
What better place to immerse yourself in the uniquely beautiful natural habitats of the Lower Lake Michigan Basin Area than by visiting one or more of its state parks! Imagine hopping on your bicycle, cruising a few hours past the city and its noise then suddenly finding yourself immersed in a tranquil landscape that looks and sounds like what most of the State of Illinois looked and sounded like before the City of Chicago was even an idea.

This month, we lent a helping hand to Friends of the Major Taylor Trail, on Earth Day Weekend, organized by local bicyclist Anne Alt.

Hosted by Cook County Forest Preserves, in association with TreeKeepers of Openlands and Green Corps, the day brought us out to Chicago's South Side Whistler Woods to clear out overgrown sections of the Major Taylor Trail and to remove invasive species.  We learned about new, up & coming trails and a little local history too. Read on to find out more.

Birth of an Idea:
Putting an idea into existence is an absolutely thrilling endeavor, where imaginations can run wild….. Andrew returned home to Chicago after traveling the world and gained so much knowledge and new takes on routine approaches. The very first week of his return he traveled by bicycle. He realized the beauty within his community and beyond, and understood his origins with a clearer aspect as well as understood what it means be apart of the city he calls home Chicago.....

Chicago! Weekend Bike Adventure

6/19/2015

Picture
Pedal along ancient Shorelines, where woolly mammoths once trekked and American Indians footed through native lands. Meander and traverse through prairies and oak savannas, under leafy green canopies and wide eyed vistas. Witness the brilliance of engineering architects as you roll through canyoning towers of stone and steel marvels built by the mighty hands of men from around the world. This well deserved bike adventure is as bright as the gleaming blue waters of lake michigan coupled with rural farmland roads, historic towns, and rolling rivers. It will refresh the needing adventure.
