Decemberg: Winter in the Woods. Chicago Bike Camp Tours
The History and Beginnings of the Forest Preserves. A Two Day Bike Camping Trip
Decemberg: Winter in the Woods
-Date: December 9th thru 10th
-Start/Meet: 7:00 am Saturday at Dark Matter Coffee Mothership 738 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60612 (view map)
-Bike to & Overnight: Camp Reinberg in Deer Grove Forest Preserve
-Finish: 1:00 pm Sunday at Graceland Cemetery 4001 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60613
-Pace: Casual, we ride together as a group at 12mph. No one is left behind, a Guide is always riding in the front and the back
-Mileage: 45 Day One | 32 Day Two
-Lodging: Two Options
  • Heated Cabin dormitory style (Pack your sleeping bag on your bike. Cabin spot included when you register). 
  • Under the Stars Tent Site (Must bring your own tent and sleeping gear)

The Lost Route of The Wood Bike Tour Illustrated Map
​​Board the Dark Matter Mothership and land at Camp Reinberg for a winter night in the woods. All are welcome but will all make it?
​This is a challenging yet very doable 77 mile bike camping trip (45 miles Day One. 32 miles Day Two.) From Dark matter in Ukrainian Village to Camp Reinberg 
Learn about the history and beginnings of the Forest Preserves, the ecology of the area, and what it takes to preserve it. Ride through time and discover how land use evolved from the natural to the industrial to the recreational. Gain a new appreciation for winter. You and your bike certainly can make it! Celebrate a winter’s adventure in the comforts of a heated cabin, with hot dinner and a steamy oatmeal breakfast included.

Will I learn something? Will there be community? Will I have Fun? Yes. Yes. and Yes. So take a break from your winter hibernation and meet some new people. Register to secure your Tour slot.

​About the Guides
Our guides will help you with any needed repairs. 
They have setup multiple break points along the way in all the right places to ensure you can go the distance. So if this is your first time out on a long ride.... You’ll be surprised on far you can actually go. If you feel like you can't make it there are always train stations along the way that can bring you back home.
