The season of giving is upon us. Such a delightful time to reflect on which causes and non-profits really matter to us and how we would like to give back to them. Its so fun to make a list of the orgs you love or even causes that you stand for and consider how you can give back to them. Can you afford to volunteer your time to a couple of them? Are you able to make a single donation? Can you become a recurring donor to one or two of the ones that are just that wonderful?
Whatever your giving decision making process looks like this year, enjoy it.
- Make a list of orgs and causes that stand for the values you stand for and reflect on how much you can give them (one time donation, recurring donation, volunteer time, etc)
- Spread the word about orgs that you love and support
- Celebrate any ability you have, small or big, to support orgs that are making the world a better place
Our dollars and time have so much power, and we so often hand them over to folks/companies that aren’t necessarily trying to make the world a better place, and maybe even are actively making it a worse place. When you give to a non-profit organization, you are giving your powerful dollars and/or time to those that are not profit driven, those that are meaning driven, values driven, mission driven.
And that is us at Out Our Front Door. No doubt our one employee isn’t trying to make it rich. No doubt, our volunteers show up to get nearly 1000 folks out on bike adventures each year because they care.
We stand for:
- Adventure and the personal growth and the community building that comes with adventure.
- Welcoming and supporting everyone and anyone on our adventures
- The bicycle as a darn near perfect mode of transportation; one that is human powered, affordable, and most importantly, puts one in the outdoors
- Educating about and immersing in our local natural areas, because a love of the outdoors must begin here, at home, out our front door
So our challenge to you is to take some time to reflect. What orgs and causes do you stand for? What orgs do you want to see thrive because their thriving helps you to thrive, helps your city, our world, to thrive? What orgs stand for the values you stand for? And consider how much you can give to them.
I’ll tell you from personal experience, that giving will make you feel good. Also, from personal experience, I’ll tell you that the folks receiving those funds are so grateful because even the smallest donation can go such a long way in the nonprofit world, especially for the small orgs that are out there working hard to create a world that we and future generations will be proud of and able to grow healthy and thrive in.
